Common Questions

Why are appointments so long these days?

Blame social media! Hairstylists get a lot of pictures from Instagram and Pinterest of gorgeous hair. Hair that inspires, takes time. Think back to the the yellow blonde stripes that were popular in the 90's. That was a straight forward one step process. Put some bleach in the foils, wash and go. Now, things are blended for longevity and personalized for skin tone and face shape. Todays colors require more time upfront and less time later. That celebrity that had a blonde pixie in January and dark hair to her waist in may? That was a loooooong appointment. And it was worth it.

Why is shampoo from grocery stores and online stores like amazon so taboo?

First and most importantly, when you buy directly from your stylist or their on line store, you are supporting them, their livelihood and their small business. Better than supporting giant corporations, no?

A $300 color will not hold up against the lather of a $9 shampoo. Cheap hair products are not made to support a beautiful cut or color. A cheap shampoo may have a delicious lather, a perfume like smell and leave your hair with an abundance of shine. But, evil is lurking in the forms of sulphates and detergents (lather), alcohol (scent) and wax (shine). These ingredients will ruin your hair with prolonged use.

Another problem, is the big box stores like target and amazon pay very little attention to where the product is coming from. Some products sit in a warehouse for so long they expire. Then, they are sold to the highest bidder in bulk, still good or not. Sometimes they are tampered with, watered down and repackaged. Sometimes the bar codes are changed. So, is it the real product? You'll never know. And, you'll often pay more than you would getting them from your stylist.

Lastly, You trust your stylist with your hair. You trust them with scissors and chemicals and your self confidence. You can also trust their products. The products they recommend are meant to support your style and help you take the best care of it. They have been trained to use them properly.

The prices seem higher. Why is that?

The looks people want these days require multiple steps, lots of products and a ton of education. A good stylist invests loads of time and money into keeping up with new trends and techniques. There are so many factors that go into giving you those inspiration picture results. It's not just about the price of supplies but also the time investment put in to gaining the skills it takes to create what you want. When you look in the mirror on a daily basis and love what you see, you'll know it was money well spent.

What is a Treatment?

Treatments are steps taken to "treat" problem areas of the hair. Just as a facial mask can detox or moisturize, hair treatments do the same for the hair. A moisture treatment adds softness, shine or protein to the hair depending on what is needed. A detox treatment can be done on the scalp, hair or both. A scalp detox deals with flakey, itchy dry scalp. A hair detox removes product, medication and environmental buildup. When the hair is overly dry or damaged, it will not behave the way it should. When it is overloaded with toxin buildup, it will feel heavy or oily and color will not perform as intended. Think of these as a reset for your hair. Did I mention how relaxing they are? Gahhh....

Where's your address?

I keep my address off line until a few days before your appointment. At that time, the address is sent directly to you so you have time to map it. My space is located in the Parkrose neighborhood of portland, 97220.

How and why do you choose the products you use?

Paying close attention to ingredients and whether or not the products I use are tested on animals has become extremely important to me. I am immunocompromised and do my best to use and sell products that are highly functional, gentle to the body and animals, have no unnecessary/toxic ingredients and are sustainable.

I try to be a good human and take care of myself. I also try to take the time to care for and educate my clients.

Thank you for supporting my small business!
